Swiss Chard Fordhook Giant is a high-yielding, leafy vegetable known for broad, dark green crumpled leaves and thick white stems.
It matures in 45–60 days, thrives in fertile well-drained soil, and is suited for continuous leaf harvesting.
Planting Guidelines:
- Seed Rate: 11 to 15 kg per acre (when planted directly).
- Spacing: 60 cm × 60 cm (or 45 cm within rows).
- Soil Requirements: Fertile, moisture-retaining, but well-drained soil.
- Watering: Moderate, consistent irrigation is required.
- Yield Potential: 10 to 19 tonnes per acre depending on management and season
Advantages:
Massive Yields: It is incredibly productive. Just a few plants can provide enough harvest for an entire family, as each plant can yield up to 700 - 800g."Cut-and-Come-Again"
Harvest: You can pick the outer leaves for months at a time. The center continues to push out fresh growth, allowing for an extended harvesting period.
Exceptional Climate Tolerance: It thrives in both warm and cool weather. It shows great resilience to light frosts and is highly resistant to "bolting" (going to seed prematurely) during temperature spikes.
