Starmet 70% WG/DF is a selective, systemic herbicide widely used for pre- and early post-emergence weed control in potato and sugarcane farms. It effectively targets annual broadleaf weeds and grasses.
Active Ingredient: Metribuzin (70% concentration).
Formulation Type: Water Dispersible Granule (WG) / Dry Flowable (DF), which dissolves readily in water for easy sprayer mixing.
Mode of Action: Systemic action. The herbicide is absorbed by the weed's roots and foliage, translocating through the plant to inhibit photosynthesis, resulting in yellowing and eventual death.
Benefits
- Cost-effective: Highly concentrated formulation; for instance, in sugarcane, 1 kg of product can cover up to 2 acres.
- Yield protection: Safely clears out competing weeds without harming your primary potato or sugarcane cash crops.
- Flexibility: Allows farmers to manage multiple weed types simultaneously, and can sometimes be tank-mixed with other herbicides like 2,4-D for maximum impact.
Application Rates:
- General Mix: 30 to 60 grams of Starmet per 20 liters of backpack sprayer water.
- Acre Coverage: 1 kilogram covers approximately 2 to 2.5 acres.
Safety and Handling:
- Only use on designated crops (potatoes and sugarcane). Spraying this on tomatoes, beans, or other broadleaf vegetables may kill or damage your crop.
- Always wear protective gear (gloves, masks, and boots) when mixing and spraying.
- Spray when wind speeds are low to avoid drifting the chemical onto sensitive neighboring crops.
