Chala F1 is a high-yielding, determinate, open-field tomato hybrid known for vigorous growth and robust disease resistance.
It is specially bred to thrive in hot, dry environments, producing firm, attractive saladette-type fruits that are ideal for the fresh market and have a long shelf-life.
Key Characteristics:
- Fruit Type: Firm, blocky-oval saladette shape (excellent for transport).
- Growth Habit: Determinate (bush-type), though it responds well to trellising/staking in the field to improve yields and airflow.
- Disease Package: Features strong resistance to common tropical tomato diseases (e.g., Fusarium wilt, Nematodes, and early blight)
Guidelines:
Soil: Prefers well-drained, fertile loam or sandy-loam soils with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8.
Spacing: Space rows 120 cm apart, with 45 cm between individual plants. This density allows for optimal sunlight and air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
Base Fertilizer: Incorporate well-decomposed organic manure and apply a phosphate-rich fertilizer (such as DAP) during planting.
Seed Rate: Approximately 50g of seeds per acre.
Nursery Phase: Start seeds in well-drained seedling trays or sterilized soil beds. They will be ready to transplant in 25–30 days.
