Long Ps is a long-acting (LA) formulation of Penicillin and Streptomycin (PS) used to treat systemic bacterial infections. It provides sustained antibiotic release over 48 to 72 hours.
Mode of action:
This long-acting, broad-spectrum antibiotic combination provides a powerful tool for controlling infections in livestock.
Designed for deep intramuscular (IM) administration, its unique formulation slows the absorption of active ingredients, reducing the need for daily handling and minimizing stress on the animal.
Benefits:
Fewer Injections & Reduced Stress: Long-acting (LA) properties allow active ingredients (like oxytetracycline or benzathine penicillin) to be slowly released into the bloodstream. This maintains effective treatment for up to 48–72 hours per dose, drastically reducing the stress and labor of daily dosing.
Broad-Spectrum Effectiveness: Penicillin-Streptomycin (PS) combinations offer coverage against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This makes them highly effective for treating pneumonia, mastitis, wound infections, foot rot, and joint infections.
Deep Tissue Penetration: These formulations are designed to maintain minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) in the animal’s tissues over several days, ensuring the infection is completely cleared rather than just suppressed.
Dosage & Administration:
- Route: Deep intramuscular injection only.
- Standard Dose Rate: Typically 1mL per 10 to 25kg of body weight
- Frequency: Repeat after 48 to 72hours if clinical signs persist, or as directed by a veterinarian.
- Shake well before use to ensure the suspension is uniform.
Withdrawal Periods:
Mandatory withholding times must be observed to ensure meat and milk are safe for human consumption.
- Meat / Offal: Typically 28 to 30 days.
- Milk: Typically 3 to 5 days.
